In the heart of a modern and bustling city, Da Nang Museum stands out as a “living archive” of Central Vietnam’s history and culture. With its modern architecture, vivid exhibition spaces, and advanced interactive technologies, Da Nang Museum is an ideal stop for travelers who want to fully experience the spirit of the Quang region.
Da Nang Museum is a place that preserves valuable historical memories and reflects the cultural and social development journey of the city through each period. Established in 1989 at 78 Le Duan Street, the museum initially operated as a modest exhibition space, primarily aimed at preserving historical artifacts and showcasing local identity to residents and visitors.
By 2011, to expand its scale and improve the visitor experience, Da Nang Museum was relocated to 24 Tran Phu Street – a location tied to Dien Hai Citadel, a nationally recognized special historical site. There, the museum served millions of visitors over more than a decade and became one of the city’s prominent cultural and educational landmarks.
However, to fully preserve the original value of Dien Hai Citadel and return space to this historic monument, the city government decided to move the museum to a newer and more modern facility at 31 Tran Phu and 42–44 Bach Dang Streets.
After a period of renovation and construction, the new Da Nang Museum was officially inaugurated on March 28, 2025 – coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the city’s liberation, carrying profound historical significance.
With its fresh and elegant look, advanced exhibition technologies, and expanded space, the museum not only continues its mission of preserving history but also promises to become one of Da Nang’s new must-visit tourism attractions.
Address of the Da Nang Museum:
Architecturally, the new museum is designed in a modern style that harmoniously combines contemporary architectural lines with traditional elements. The façade uses glass and eco-friendly materials to optimize natural lighting.
The interior exhibition space is divided into various scientific thematic areas, integrating interactive and virtual reality technologies. Notably, pathways, elevators, signage, and rest areas are logically arranged to ensure convenient accessibility for all visitors, including people with disabilities and the elderly.
The new Da Nang Museum is not only a place that stores valuable artifacts but also an attractive educational and entertainment destination. Visitors can learn about the history, culture, and people of Da Nang through artifacts, models, and modern display technologies.
Stepping into Da Nang Museum, visitors are guided through three distinctive content floors and various themed exhibition areas. Each space vividly represents a historical and cultural timeline of Da Nang in particular and Central Vietnam in general.
The first floor presents an overall picture of nature and human life from thousands of years ago. Archaeological artifacts, collections from the Sa Huynh, Champa to Dai Viet periods, and documents on the typical ecosystems of Quang – Da region are vividly arranged. This floor has a strong academic character, ideal for those passionate about ancient history.
The second floor takes visitors into a war memory space, preserving hundreds of artifacts, documentary photos, and authentic narratives of Da Nang’s brave resistance efforts.
Images of urban resistance movements, military equipment, campaign maps, and reconstructed battle spaces help visitors relive the heroic moments of national history.
The third floor highlights culture with content about customs, traditions, attire, traditional crafts, and spiritual life of Central Vietnam’s ethnic minorities. Model stilt houses, daily life items, and traditional instruments are displayed in clear, lively themes, bringing audiences closer to a rich and diverse culture.
In addition to the three permanent content floors, the museum also features special exhibition areas with themes changing seasonally or according to historical-cultural events throughout the year. Notably, the museum is equipped with 3D projection systems, interactive touchscreens, augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR), and digital tour guides to elevate the visiting experience.
In 2025, Da Nang Museum offers free admission to all domestic and international visitors in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the city’s liberation (valid until the City People’s Council issues a new resolution on museum entrance fees).
Da Nang Museum opens from Tuesday to Sunday weekly (closed Friday afternoon for routine cleaning):
Ideal visiting time:
Currently, since admission is free throughout 2025, visitors don’t need to book in advance. Just arrive during opening hours to explore the museum.
Right from the entrance, Da Nang Museum impresses with its modern design, spacious layout, and architectural blend of tradition and modernity. Exhibits are logically arranged with clearly presented bilingual information panels.
One of the museum’s biggest highlights is its interactive technology areas, including touchscreens, 3D projection systems, and VR experiences that vividly recreate historical battles and ethnic cultures, making visitors feel as if they are stepping into Central Vietnam’s historical flow.
The museum’s interior is also highly praised for its aesthetics. The glass corridor overlooking the Han River, the spiral staircase catching natural light, and themed exhibition corners all serve as perfect backgrounds for photography. At certain times of the year, the museum hosts special exhibitions, interactive activities, and folk culture re-creations.
Besides Da Nang Museum, culture and history enthusiasts can also spend time visiting the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, located just minutes from the city center.
With its prime location right by My Khe Beach, Premier Village Da Nang is an ideal resting place, offering easy access to Da Nang Museum and the city’s famous landmarks.
From Premier Village, it takes only about 18 minutes to reach the museum. In addition, the resort is near many popular spots like Dragon Bridge, Love Bridge, Marble Mountains, and Son Tra Peninsula, allowing you to conveniently plan your itinerary without spending too much time traveling.
